Thai opposition Future Forward Party could be dissolved over loan from leader

Thailand's election commission has filed a motion with the Constitutional Court to dissolve the opposition Future Forward Party. Co-founder Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit is accused of giving an illegal loan of 191 million baht (US$6.3 million) to his party. The court first has to decide whether to accept the case before the party is in danger of being banned.

The court first has to decide whether to accept the case before the party is in danger of being banned. In November, Mr Thanathorn was removed as a member of parliament for allegedly holding illegal shares in a defunct media company. There are dozens of other charges and complaints against him and the party, which supporters view as a coordinated political effort to take the party down.
